Swing dance is a lively dance style in which couples swing, spin and jump together to fast-paced music. . It uses a lot of jazz steps. There are many styles of swing from different eras. In the 1920’s jazz scene, Lindy Hop involved an 8-count circular basic or "swing out." Jitterbug got its name from fast, often bouncy movements. Jive is one of the a Latin style ballroom dancing, and incorporates many Fox Trot and Jitterbug steps. Rock & Roll developed in the 1950s in response to the music. Today LeRoc & Ceroc are forms of Modern Jive, that mixes Swing, Lindy Hop and Rock and Roll to simplify the footwork.
All these swing styles are sometime seen in period movies, such as "Grease" and "Footloose." Swing dance is also very popular in a lot of competitions and even includes “Team Formation,” where a minimum of 3 to 5 couples perform a prechoreographed routine of different formations.
