A line dance is a choreographed dance. A group of individual dancers repeat a sequence of line dance steps and movements at the same time. One "count" or line dance step corresponds to one musical beat. They are usually in a row or rows, facing the same direction. The line dance group can be a mix of male and female and are usually not in physical contact with each other. Older "line dances" have lines in which the dancers face each other, or in a circle, or all line dancers follow a leader around the dance floor; while holding the hand of the dancers beside them.
Most line dances are fairly simple, like the Electric Slide and the Macarena. Country and western music has the most popular line dances. Line dancing is popular in country and western clubs and taverns.
